| Resensi | Information Systems (IS) is a dynamic and changing field. Perhaps the To the Stu most important driving force behind this field is the computer. Computers are everywhere. This is particularly true in business. The student who learns to use this powerful tool to gain a competitive advantage and pro- vide the information needed in his or her career, regardless of whether that career is finance, marketing, management, accounting, economics, or an- other business area, will be far ahead of those who do not master this tool. In information systems we study how computer hardware and software are combined to build efficient and effective information systems for busi- ness professionals. Computer hardware and software are, however, only tools. Too often people mistakenly feel that computer information systems are mysterious, complex, and hard to understand. This is an unfortunate misconception. In this text, we take the approach that management infor mation systems are logical, interesting, essential for a business career, and can be mastered with a reasonable degree of effort by any student.
The text takes a user orientation. I have covered the topics that are important for a manager, an accountant, a marketing person, and other business professionals to know. The hardware and software for informa- tion systems are usually readily available. It is the application and use of these tools that is important. Accordingly, this texts primary thrust is to cover the fundamental concepts concerning the development and use of information systems, from alignment of the information system with business strategy to the ongoing use and management of IS. |
